Pixel Character Sprite (32×32)

Translating the finalized design into a 32×32 pixel sprite forced me to simplify the character into readable shapes at a small scale. I tried pixelating “The Judge” by visually trying to copy what design I made on photoshop. This is where I had to pause and learn a little about pixel art first, making sure his head and stitching details remained recognizable even with limited pixels. I did kind of choose a difficult pose to pixelate which was a full swing but nonetheless this stage taught me how to make a strong character with strict pixel-art limitations. It also helped me understand which details matter the most for gameplay clarity things like his facial expression and overall outline. Given it was my first time actually creating some sort of pixel art myself, I approached this thinking it was supposed to possess the same details a standard drawing of the character would. This was one of the first major lesson I encountered which was pixel art was about making transparent work that did not need details and can still be conveyed with a simple design.
